Ever since I stopped posting regularly to this blog my online life has changed rather rapidly. For several years I had what I would consider steady but non impressive growth. As I’ve alluded to in the past, as one thing would dip I’d find something else but overall I wasn’t making any major breakthroughs. Then I stopped working within the MMO niche. In those last couple of weeks I’ve seen considerably more growth in my income than the previous 12 months and I spend a lot less time on the computer, here’s how:-

1. I unsubscribed from every popular MMO blog
2. I unsubscribed from every MMO newsletter
3. I instantly spammed ANYTHING from any MMO marketer
4. I started posting more original content to niches that matter

With the first 3 my aim was to lose all distractions. I don’t want to know about the latest traffic system that guarantees success (Disclaimer – Your success with this system can not be guaranteed). I didn’t want the latest faddy software that was after all working on the same data that every other piece of faddy software I’d already bought was working on. I’m not interested in the latest must have product with $3 billion worth of bonuses you slimy lying bullshitting bastards.

Instead I now dedicate a couple of hours a day to writing high quality original content and posting it into niches that are REAL, with REAL products to promote, you know things that arrive through the post and are of actual benefit to people. Writing about things that people other than people trying to make a quick buck are interested in is the future! In other words I’m now working instead of looking for the next big piece of marketing shit. I very rarely post on Twitter. I very rarely use Stumble or the social bookmarking tools. All I do is write content. Research and write is what my 2 hour work day involves. The rest of my time is mine to develop the software that I really enjoy doing or to play Xbox, or to go fishing, or whatever else. The thing is that not everybody else can do this because despite the typos and bad English I’m actually quite intelligent. I’ve stopped short cutting and am now using my brain to make money online. I can analyse a subject and then write an original article in a way that people want to reference it, not everybody can do that – and that’s the point. People who work in the “Maker Money Online” niche will tell you that anybody can make money online. I’m telling you that isn’t the case. People with the right skills will make money online, the others will just end up lining the pockets of those that will tell you how easy it is and how everybody is doing it – using their system.

I could show you some figures at this point but it’s so easy to fake so why bother? Instead I’ll tell you and you can believe whatever you want. In the last 6 weeks my traffic has more than doubled across all my websites (except this one). The number of inbound links I’m getting is way up and so in relation is my search traffic. Money wise things have been equally as good (organic affiliate marketing), I have absolutely no money worries.

It’s obvious to me now that the MMO niche is tiny. So very very tiny and there are already big players dominating it. It’s salesmen trying to sell to either other salesmen or people too lazy to put in the hard work. That is after all what making money online is about to most people isn’t it? Why work for a living when it’s so much easier to make a living online sat in your PJ’s at home? On the other hand there are markets out there with thousands of times the number of people (and consumers) that are crying out for original, factual content.

Unplugging myself from the MMO Matrix has been the single best decision I’ve made since I started working for myself. Whilst I’ll still make the odd post I can assure you that I will never ever slip back into it.
