Now that I’ve had a good nights sleep I can reflect on yesterdays post a bit. I still think I’m 90% right, when it comes to the making money part of the internet the single most important factor is luck. And luck is out of our control. At the end of the day we can not force people to perform an action that generates income for us. However there are certain parts of the equation that are in our control – for me and my business this is what I need to concentrate on at the moment. The most important of these are links and content and the equation links+content=traffic.
More Links
I’ve had great success with ConnectContent but I’m also going to start hitting the traditional ways of getting links much harder. I have articles written and ready for syndication through the various article directories right now, I need to give much more priority to actually following through and completing these tasks. Another of the jobs I don’t do enough of is keeping up to date with what other blogs are saying and commenting. I need to do more of this so if anybody has any blogs that they can recommend just leave a comment and I’ll check it out? Finally, forums. I dipped my toe in, got quite active and gained a load of traffic and back link and then for some reason in the last month I’ve become lazy again. When you stop participating it doesn’t take long for the positive effects to fade away (In other words it’s all well and good having a great forum signature but if you’re not posting nobody is seeing it!)
Of course other than the obvious sources of links I’ve got a few “things” on the go that I’ll report on when I have some results, 2 of which I’m very excited about!
More Content
Woah, where do I start with this one! These are just some of the posts on THIS BLOG that I have to make:-
1. The follow up to my $100 Adsense Day
2. The results of my plug-in and how I’ve doubled my organic traffic
3. The continuation of my basics series
4. The continuation of my “Shoemoney Tools” alternatives
5. My review of the Affiliate Theme – from somebody who actually paid for the bloody thing!
That’s just straight from the top of my head, I dare not look at my to do list. Away from this blog I have dozens of articles that have been written and just need put live. I need to build the content in to pages and upload it but I just don’t have the time. I will have to make the time. Then there are the more interesting projects, the interactive pages and things that require a bit of programming, I can think of at least 8 of these that I need to finish. Finally there is the software side of things, a quick brain storming session with the wife last night resulting in 4 applications that need writing. All of which I will make available once complete, if there is one thing I’ve noticed from writing this blog it is that the direction of my software has changed away from general users to the internet marketing crowd. I could outsource these but to be honest writing the software is the bit I enjoy!
So all of this should result in even more traffic, not that my traffic is bad. In fact a large part of my rant yesterday was brought on by the fact that my traffic is always increasing, it’s just the bit that turns that traffic into that tends to be all over the place. But I can only influence what I have influence over and for now that means links and content.

That could have been me writing these two posts as what you said about luck and things being out of our hands are so true. What is more, only Adsense is doing anything for me at present, although nothing like it should be. CTR has been in the toilet for a while.
Although I don’t do a lot of affiliate selling per say, I use Ebay auctions on a lot of my sites and that has fallen flat over the last week or so. Mind you, I think Ebay must be suffering as well since they are laying off over 1000 staff (about 10% of their workforce).
Even traffic numbers to all of my Squidoo lenses has fallen by half since last week.
So, I have been setting up a few blogger blogs just recently (only small niche type sites) with the aim of generating some additional adsense income as well as using up some of this mountain of content that I have spent a fortune on over the years, and never used.
I put the sites up on blogger with an initial couple of articles. Post the RSS feed to the various aggregators and post an article through AMA for distribution. Those blogs have also started generating search traffic, at least up until yesterday when G did their usual and sunk the initial rankings. They will come back up but that is another one of those ‘luck’ and ‘out of your control’ things!
Intention is to build around fifty blogger blogs – all white hat with genuine useful content and see if I can reach my daily adsense goal (or is that a dream) of at least $100.00. Time and luck will tell I guess!
