If you’re new to blogging and looking to get some visitors (any visitors) then you can do worse than signing up for Entrecard. If you’ve never used Entrecard before then let me explain a little. It’s a service that lets you earn points by showing other people’s cards (125×125 images) on your blog. You can then use these points to show your card on other people’s blogs. Whilst it doesn’t deliver huge amounts of traffic it is a very cheap way (i.e. free) of getting some exposure for a new blog.

However the usefulness of Entrecard has a lifespan relative to the popularity of your blog and I’m afraid that on this blog that time has come to an end. I’ve made the decision to allow people to advertise directly and what I’m rapidly discovering is that have an Entrecard on your site devalues any attempts at selling advertising. It’s hard enough selling ads directly without trying to do it with one arm behind your back.

At the moment there are 2 ways of getting a 125×125 ad to show on the right side of this website. One costs you between 4 and 16 Entrecard points (bugger all money) the other will cost you $8 a month. Whilst in the big scheme of things that’s naff all to put an advert in front of thousands of visitors it’s a lot more than 8 Entrecard points!

So from this point on I have a plan. I’ll no longer be accepting any advertising requests from Entrecard users. I’ll use my thousands of points to do one last blitz of advertising and then I’ll remove the Entrecard code from here.
