I know this is an old post, but I thought I would comment.

Up to november last year my sites were fine, and in fact the best they have ever been, since Xmas though they have dropped massively and my earnings are at an all time eCPM low.. I state eCPM because I have been working hard to increase traffic, my ecpm has just dropped due to less advertiser competition.

How do you see things now?

Online advertising is a lot cheaper and the customer gets more bang for their buck. Startups will definitely be affected in this down economy, but the strong online companies will struggle their way through and make it to the end.
