I agree, I too am not a fan of flash websites, I think load time is a big thing and is very unattractive to customers, especially if they have to navigate through 3 or more pages to find what they want.

@Matt: Search Engine’s (Google) spider can crawl Flash site now. I’m actually surprised not long ago I was looking for a search term and one of the returned result turn out to be a flash swf I designed couple of years ago. It even highlight the search term inside the flash.

Apart from that Google spiders wont recognize the flash websites and spiders cant list the flash sites so its dam waste focusing on them …

Its true. the only reason you are really going to need a flash website is if you want to look really nice. If you have a webdesign site for example having a flash site will make you look better.

I fully agree with you. Flash sites are only for people who don’t want to learn the right and decent methods. Once you want to edit your sites having created them in Flash originally makes it a pain in the backside to revise later.

while i agree with your top 5 especially #3 the SEO aspect, it entirely depends on the purpose of the website and the niche.

For example look at any high-end designer company, the impressive nature of flash is going to raise their profile more than a static page full of links.

Anyone who can afford to buy a Armani Suit, is not going to be on dial-up and in that case Flash will ‘sell’ their suits more effectively than a css page.

I use those with clients. I have another one which I have started to use lately and its working. I sell B2B website. Sites should be simple with an easy flow of how a person should work the site. As soon as you add animation you break the chain of thought. So instead of looking at the key heading they land up looking at the animation, it breaks the visitors though pattern

A quick note on the 40%, here in South Africa, that is most probably much higher and our fast connections are 512k (64k), add 10 users to the network and you might as well be on a dial up.

Flash sucks.
