Why I Regret Ever Using Adsense

May 29th, 2009 11 Comments

I want to show you a couple of screenshots. The first on the left is from one of my ClickBank accounts. The sales it shows relate to 1 product that I’ve been promoting recently from 1 page on 1 of my websites. The image to the right of it shows the statistics for that page from Google analytics.
ClickBank for May
Google Analytics for May

On the left hand side we have over $67 in income, on the right hand side we have only 10 unique visitors to that page and despite having no less than 3 Adsense blocks on it a total earnings of $0.01 with Adsense! This is why I regret ever using Adsense!

LSI – Love Sex Intelligence?

May 28th, 2009 4 Comments

An excellent bit of dance music from the early 90′s, the Shamen were bang on with LSI. So how has it come to be that LSI is now better known as Latent Semantic Indexing – not quite as interesting is it? But Latent Semantic Indexing is one of the hottest subjects in the world of SEO and if there’s one thing guaranteed to cause a fight between SEO professionals it is the mere mention of LSI. So what is LSI, does it really exist and should you worry about it?

The Current PPC Market

If you’re an advertiser then it’s a pretty good time to be involved with Pay-Per-Click advertising. My own personal experience is that I’ve seen costs coming down since the beginning of the new year and that’s always a good thing. On the other hand if you’re a publisher then times are not as good. This is what I want to talk about today, I know I’m suffering but I wonder just how much everybody else is suffering as well?

I Love This Guy

I know this is quite an old video but I was talking to some people recently about this technology that gives you the most amazing 3D with nothing more than the Wii Controller/Sensor, they’d never heard of it. They wouldn’t believe me either. This takes hacking all the way back its roots, you take something designed for one use, play around with it and you end up with something infinitely cleverer than the original. Mr Johnny Lee sir, I salute you!

The Affiliate Theme – A Review Without Affiliate Links

May 19th, 2009 4 Comments

I’ve been very deliberate to leave this review until all the fuss over the Affiliate Theme from Unique Blog Designs died down. As the blog designers for some of the biggest names in blogging its common sense that a new product like this would be associated with a huge amount of hype, it’s only natural and I bet any of us in UBD’s position would be calling in some favours too? It’s also common sense that many of the big make money bloggers are going to promote this as it comes with a fantastic affiliate program (30%). Personally, I bought the theme (with my own cash) and have used it a fair amount so think I can give an honest and balanced view of what it does and doesn’t give you for your money. If you’re looking for the short version then here it is – it’s good but in my opinion over priced for what it does. For the full version read on:-

What’s With The “The”?

May 15th, 2009 12 Comments

Honestly, TheMakeMoneyOnline.net is a horrible domain name. It’s not the sort of name that you’re going to hear banded around and shared amongst friends. However, to understand why I chose it you need to understand the primary way in which I make money online. I don’t build communities, I don’t leverage social networking, I don’t use mail lists. At the end of the day, when all the talk is finished, I make almost all of my money online by converting search traffic into cash. I have 35+ websites doing this with various degrees of success. That’s just the way I work. Key to my living is generating healthy amounts of organic search traffic, something I’ve never failed to do, and it is for this reason that you are now on a domain called themakemoneyonline.net and not something that rolls of the tongue a little easier.

How To Get Keyword Rich Followed Links From Blog Comments For Your Static Websites

May 13th, 2009 22 Comments

–NOTE– I’ve just updated my version of the commentLuv plugin, it looks like the later versions comply with how WordPress handles nofollow by default, i.e. unless the blog owner is running a DoFollow plugin then these links are not followed. There is still some value in using this, most blog owners don’t like spammy keyword rich “user names” associated with comments, at least this way you can use whatever link text you like.

I don’t think there is a SEO’er out there who doesn’t appreciate the benefit that leaving comments on blogs can bring. WordPress in particular gives you a very easy way of getting a 1-way link back to whichever website you specify in the comment form. The major problem with this is that these links are nofollowed by default, in other words Google won’t count them. There are a number of WP plug-ins designed to bypass this and reward your commentators with a followed link, one of the best (and one I’ve been using since it was first written) is CommentLuv. The CommentLuv plugin works by looking for an RSS feed associated with the domain you specify in the comment form, it then creates a followed link to the top entry in that feed. If you’re the sort of person that only creates blogs then commenting on blogs that use the CommentLuv plugin is a perfect way of building your link profile. My problem is this, most of my main money makers are not blogs, they are static websites. Where there’s a will there’s usually a way though. This is a trick I’ve been using for a while to get the CommentLuv links back to my static websites and it’s one I’m going to share with you now.

Midphase Affiliate Program – Easy Money

May 12th, 2009 2 Comments

Michael Kwan, what a hoot! How dare he suggest that I’m slap dash about my blogging, does he not know that blogging is my life? Shame on his clumsy, accident prone self.

Anyhoo, I’ve had a really good time with the Midphase Affiliate Program recently and so have decided that it’s something worth sharing. My plan was to do this on Saturday but I went out on Friday night with a few friends and managed to get totally shit-house drunk. Saturday was a no go and I was still blowing a very high reading when I checked Sunday (if you’ve subscribed to the RSS via e-mail wanting the password for the $100 day Adsense post then I’m still playing catch up). Fortunately my head has just about returned to Earth so here we go, the Midphase Affiliate program and how to make money with it.
