Pick Up, Dust Off, Start Again

April 15th, 2009 5 Comments

Now that I’ve had a good nights sleep I can reflect on yesterdays post a bit. I still think I’m 90% right, when it comes to the making money part of the internet the single most important factor is luck. And luck is out of our control. At the end of the day we can not force people to perform an action that generates income for us. However there are certain parts of the equation that are in our control – for me and my business this is what I need to concentrate on at the moment. The most important of these are links and content and the equation links+content=traffic.

You Can Only Piss With The Dick You’ve Got!

Some people like to tell you that making money from the internet is easy. It’s not. However it’s in their interest to give you a sense of ease because then you are more likely to spend money gaining the knowledge and skills that it takes to make money. It is the whole idea of the magic bullet that drives the “make money online” niche. I don’t believe that the magic bullet exists. Never have. You want to know what I think is the biggest difference between making a fortune online and making nothing? Luck. So much in the world goes on that is totally outside of our control and it these events that can make or break you. Sure you can learn to ride them, but if at the end of the day luck decides to kick you in the knackers then there’s little you can do. With all the wishing, will and skill in the world, we can at the end of the day only piss with the dicks we’ve got.

Happy Easter

April 12th, 2009 2 Comments

Just to wish everybody who celebrates it, a Happy Easter!

I’m taking a few days break, it’s some very much needed R&R (I’ve been putting in 16-18 hour work days for the last few weeks). So far this weekend I’ve sorted out the garden, which resulted in the mowing of cat shit, we don’t have any cats so it seems that all the neighbours use our garden for their toilet! Today the plan is simplicity itself, cook a roast, eat lots of chocolate and spend some serious relaxation time with my family. Tomorrow I’m going to be putting up a fence live on webcam, seeing as how I’m the world’s worst DIYer there will be hammers and screws flying in all directions. No doubt I’ll be getting the mighty chopper out at some point (my old faithful axe).

Anyway I digress, computer is being switched of now, please everybody make the most of the weekend. All the best, Paul.

ConnectContent – The Most Important Post I’ll Make This Year

April 8th, 2009 1 Comments

This is one of those posts where I umm and ahh to myself before writing it. Do I really want to share this with the world? A little while back I didn’t and that’s why this has been sat in my drafts for so long, but I figure what the hell, the internet is a very big place and there are plenty of niches and traffic to go around. What I’m about to tell you about is in my opinion FAR AND AWAY the best link building tool I have ever used – a system that can change your fortunes online – it goes by the name of ConnectContent.

New Adsense Privacy Policy

April 7th, 2009 5 Comments

This is just a final reminder that you must have your new Adsense Privacy Policy in place for tomorrow. If you want to carry on using Adsense then this is a must do, not that I can imagine them just booting forgetful publishers like that but if they do audit your site and it’s not there then you’re not going to have much of an excuse!

No need to panic though, this privacy policy generator will give you the HTML you need in a matter of seconds. From then on it’s just case of putting it on a page and linking to it from your footer (remember rel=”nofollow”).

Fixing Unranked Pages

April 7th, 2009 0 Comments

There was a page rank update last week, me, personally, I’ve lost all interest in that little green bar but I know there are a lot of people who still hang on that figure. To them “unranked” is a dirty word, a dirty horrible nasty word! I’ve had my fair share of unranked pages in the past and for the most part where I’ve chosen to I’ve managed to get them “some rank”, here’s my tips for getting back on Google’s good books.

I Like Comments

April 2nd, 2009 2 Comments

Just a quicky – despite naturally being spikey and to be honest, a bit of a grumpy old man in training, I actually like getting comments! I know I get my fair share but I’ve just gone back through my Akismet spam for the last week and there were plenty of genuine comments in there (which I’ve now approved). The thing is with this is that at the moment I’m topping 400 spam comments a day (Jesus, I can remember when I got my first spam comment). There is no way I have the time nor inclination to plough back through that lot every day, other day or even week picking out the genuine comments.

So here’s the deal, if you’re good enough to leave a genuine comment here but don’t see it appear within a few hours please don’t be afraid to drop me a line using the contact form and tell me. Honestly if you can go to the effort to contribute the least I can do is approve it. I approve all genuine comments, even the ones that call me a tw……

Yes, You Can Rank Duplicate Content – Part 1

GETTING TRAFFIC WITH DUPLICATE CONTENTAnybody want to guess what this chart represents? There is a bit of a clue in the title. Give up?…. That chart shows organic traffic for a new website built almost entirely from freely available articles. It is the laziest type of content and according to every SEO expert out there should not be getting organic search traffic.
