Economonkey, One To Watch

August 31st, 2007 2 Comments

After the success of Digg it seems that everybody and their dog have decided to have a go at a Digg format clone. Every possible angle seems to have been covered without any being very successful. Of the top of my head I can’t think of any that have made an significant impact? This could change with the creation of www.economonkey.com

What Is Economonkey

Besides being a word that is really hard to type, it’s also the name of the latest Digg clone, this time aiming at the British finance market. You are looking at a membership of people all interested in the UK finance sector posting articles, voting and burying news to keep the most relevant tit-bits at the top. Perhaps the one thing that seperates this effort from many of the others is the design, it looks like a professional site. They have obviously found a very talented designer and that investment should pay dividends over the long term.

What Are The Chances

Good. The man behind the idea (LC) is a social marketing expert. He is paid to promote businesses through online social networking and so if you could expect anybody to make this type of project work it would be somebody with those sorts of credentials. That’s what makes this idea so worth watching, if there is any mileage left in the Digg format then this could be one very good way of finding out. Personally I wish him all the best with it.

Make Money Online – The Easiest $50 You’ll Ever Make

August 30th, 2007 2 Comments

There are some affiliate programs out there that have been flying below the mainstream radar for years. Take for example ClickCash.com, everybody has heard of ClickBank, how many of you have heard of ClickCash?
The ClickCash program has been running since 1996 and has paid out tens of millions of dollars to affiliates who help to promote the iFriends network. ifriends is an adult webcam service, it’s been around for a long time and is one of the most respected in the industry and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report, Forbes, PC Magazine and many more

How Do I Earn $50

Sign up on the ClickCash affiliate program. That’s all there is to it, sign up for free and they’ll instantly credit your account with $50. Even better, for every free referral to the iFriends network you make you get paid up to $80, now that’s one hell of a payout for a service that is free to join.

You may think that you need an adult related site to make money with this but it’s just not the case. You can also earn money by referring people to the ClickCash program so if you’ve got a website related to how to make money online then this can be a great earner for you to. There is also a large range of banners available, many of which are perfectly family friendly and could be used on most sites, at $80 a sign-up you have little to lose.

Like all the ways of making money online here, I don’t even mention it unless I’ve made money from it myself.

100,000 Search Friendly Links for $1

August 29th, 2007 2 Comments

Everybody has seen an advert like this one (OK, maybe not quite as good as that one) where people will offer to submit your website to 1000, 10000, 100000 “Search Friendly” directories for a stupidly small fee. Has anybody ever actually bothered to review these services though? Well luckily for everybody I’ve used quite a few of these directory submission services and here’s the truth.

What Is Search Friendly

In directory terms I think them mean that

  1. The page has page rank
  2. The page does not have an excessive amount of outbound links (30 seems to be nice)
  3. The links are not disguised or no followed

What they don’t tell you however is that simply by creating a directory of non original link only content AND by offering a paid submission option (which almost all do) they are anything but search friendly.

But Do They Work

I would look at work as 3 things, some direct referral traffic, an increase in general search ranking performance, a positive effect on page rank. If you don’t see any or all of them then I’d say that this linking strategy is not working.

I can only go from my own personal experience, but in the 3 years I’ve been using various link services (ranging from manual submissions in Thailand to automatic large scale directory submission) I can honestly say that I’ve never once experienced any of the above factors. No direct referral traffic, no increase in search performance and no effect on page rank. Over that time I have clients who didn’t know any better spend hundreds of dollars (without consulting me first I must add) on these services which no positive effects, I’ve spent my own money to try and kick-start new websites and again no effect. For me and my clients it’s been like throwing money down the drain. There are several directories out there (the ODP, Yahoo directory) that are well known to have a positive effect on your website, there are a few more that do appear to be useful in terms of referral traffic but in general I wouldn’t waste my money on these services.

Prove Me Wrong

If you run one of these services and want to prove me wrong, then please be my guest. At present this blog gets around 60 unique visitors a day, has no page rank (although a 3-4 is predicted) and does very little in the natural search results. If you think your service can boost these stats then drop me an e-mail to close dot cowley at gmail dot com

You perform your magic on this site and if it works I’ll happily write a lovely review about your service and it’s positive effects. Not only that but I’ll recommend you to several existing and all future clients. If you can prove that you’ve got a directory submission service than can be of benefit then you’ll do very well out of this deal. My arms are crossed and I’m waiting here for somebody to prove me wrong.

Bank Holiday Internet Traffic

August 28th, 2007 2 Comments

If there’s one thing I hate more about a bank holiday weekend than being covered in cat crap, it’s the dip in internet traffic that always happens. The UK holds one of the largest internet user number groups and when a bank holiday comes around everybody flocks away from their computers leaving us money making machines with less traffic and less revenue. This weekend just passed was no different, I noticed a significant dip in UK visitor numbers starting on Friday and continuing all the way through to Monday.

I make just about enough money to not have to worry about looking at may day-to-day earnings, I don’t have to but I still do though and yesterday I was getting a little worried! There’s always the thought that maybe this dip is permanent and it won’t recover, to date it always has (touch wood). It was then that I decided to check another one of my sources of income, more out of desperation than anything, ClickBank. If you read my post about ClickBank you’ll know that I’m not a very good affiliate. In fact I’m rubbish. This is a valuable lesson in diversification though, because when I checked it this is what I saw:-
clickbank earnings

It’s amazing what a $133 ClickBank day will do to cheer you up! From a dismal weekend to an OK one all in one go, just because I don’t put all my eggs in one basket. Let this be a lesson to you, multiple sources of income is the key. Even better, multiple sites with multiple income streams. That’s how I conquered a bank holiday weekend disaster and you can too.

Google Test Drives A New Ad Format

August 27th, 2007 2 Comments

I noticed this for the first time yesterday. Looks like Google are test driving a new ad format for Adsense publishers. I was checking out one of my own sites when I noticed that one of the square ad blocks was showing extra links at the bottom. It looks like a link block has been added to the bottom of the 2 adverts that were in the content block. The links were for more general search terms, I’m assuming that clicking one of these would take you to the same sort of page as the standard link block does, a page full of Adsense adverts. Google is far too good to me to risk clicking on one of my own ads so I didn’t get the chance to find out for sure though.

Unfortunately I forgot to get a screen grab of this, I did see the same thing on a top banner ad as well so I’m sure I wasn’t just seeing things. Did anybody else notice these new combined ads?

An In-Depth Review Of High School Musical 2

August 27th, 2007 2 Comments

Disney Producer :- “Wow, High School Musical did well those 8 year olds really lapped it up, we need another High School Musical Film!”

Second Disney Producer :- “Yep, kerrr-ching!”

Lucky, lucky us! We watched this last night. It’s even worse than the first one, no really, it’s complete and utter nonsense. My wife who enjoyed the first film was cringing in embarrassment at this one. Crap acting, crap songs, no story at all, some of the cheesiest scenes this side of a tampax advert! On the plus side my 11 year old though it was the bees knees and will no doubt be pestering me for each of the 20 different versions that Disney decide to release, not to mention the endless merchandise.

Why I Stink Of Cat Shit

Cat Shit Garden

Thanks to the non existent summer we’ve had over in the UK this year my garden looked a mess this morning.

With the constant rain the grass hasn’t had time to dry and so has got completely out of control. Seeing as how we’ve now managed 4 days of almost warm sunshine on the Isle of Man I thought today would be the day. Unfortunately I was out last night and so was feeling a little dodgy, enough to say it was best not to stray too far from a toilet! So that was my Sunday afternoon, 3 hours of wading through piles of cat shit with a lawn mower whilst trying not to throw up from the smell. Dirty bastard cats, what are they for? Other than killing nice little animals they serve no purpose, it’s almost like they live just to shit in my garden. One of the little gits even had the cheek to try and sneak in whilst I was mowing/shit spreading.

If anybody has any tips on how to keep cats out of your garden I’d love to hear them, I’ve tried a sonic scarer, bottles full of water, lemon sprays, my next deterrent is going to be a gun?

TrialPay Update

August 25th, 2007 0 Comments

It’s been a week now since I started using TrialPay to distribute my free products. To be fair it’s only been live for 6 days because I didn’t take into account the 1 day on average it takes to get a product approved but lets see how I’ve done?

TrialPay money free software

Over those six days I’ve made $291.86 at an average price of $11.67 per download. It’s not cost my users anything but that’s the money I’ve made just by using TrialPay to deliver the software. The funny thing is that it started off on fire, I was averaging just under $100 a day for the first 2 days. Things have settled down but as an extra income source I’m more than happy with it.

TrialPay Trends
A couple of things I have noticed when using TrialPay.

  • North American residents have a much higher CTR
  • UK residents would rather pay for a product than get something for free
  • The average price you get from an American visitor is much higher than anywhere else

I’ll be continuing to use it and will be adding more products in the near future. If you have something that you’re currently giving away for free then this is a great way to earn some online money. I’d recommend that anybody who can sign up to TrialPay.
