How Much Is Too Much To Pay For A Website?

April 24th, 2007 0 Comments

To most people this is going to appear like shooting yourself in the foot, but I believe I come from a school of business that is quite rare these days, I like to think of it as being honest. As far as I’m concerned there are a lot of “Web Design” companies out there trying to do what the dodgy garage mechanic has been getting away with for years! When you have a customer who is not entirely sure what they want, don’t understand what is involved then you can go down one of 2 routes, be honest and price according to the work involved (and maybe get some referral business) or secondly rip them off for everything you can because they wont know any better. If you’re looking for a new website but don’t know what’s involved I’m going to help you avoid the second type of “business”.

UK IT Contractors, Keeping HMRC Happy

April 18th, 2007 0 Comments

April 2007 brought into effect the new changes to the tax regulations that will have a major impact on the way contractors can be paid in the UK. Whilst this will bring with it hardships for many contractors, especially those within IR35, for those that fall outside out of the Governments IR35 regulations there is still hope. As a self employed contractor you owe it to yourself to find the best way of maximising your income whilst still satisfying HMRC.

Is Your Company On The Google Map?

Google is brilliant, or at least most of the things they do are. Search for example, I still find that Googles search results more often that not and certainly much more than any other search engine reflect what I was actually looking for. E-mail is another example, when Google launched GMail it eventually revolutionised webmail systems. It started as a trickle that turned into a torrent, as is Google’s way. We’ve got a lot to thank Google for. So when Google offers your company a way of advertising or marketing on one of their services then I think it’s best to take it, what might be a “small” Google project at the moment could be ground breakingly huge next year. I’ll ask again, is your company on the Google map?

Fixing A 3 Pixel Horizontal Gap In Internet Explorer 6

So I’ve already explained how to fix what is probably one of the most annoying bugs in browser rendering history, the 3 pixel vertical gaps that appear between Divs in IE6. Whilst fixing this I also came across another bug that appears to insert a 3 pixel horizontal gap/margin when you add an element to a Div, here I’ll explain how to fix that one.
