Blogs (even highly optimized wordpress blogs) do not have the authority of a well done content website. My top 10 performing websites are all none blogs, require no updates from month to month and between them hold numerous top 3 |Google rankings for hugely competitive phrases generating 100,000+ uniques a day. Just my opinion but the ease of use of blogging platforms works against them. But each to their own :) @marcus – Sorry but not in my experience. Writing blog posts is an excellent way to generate search engine traffic. If you do the proper keyword research and on page optimization blogs are far better traffic generators than static websites.
